Samhain
The Threshold:
At Samhain, the veil thins.
What is false cannot be carried forward.
This threshold asks:
Who are you finished being mistaken for?
Magdalene Posture:
Mary Magdalene reaches for the One she loves.
She has found him again.
The grief she carried has given way to unimaginable joy.
Then comes the invitation she could never have expected.
"Do not cling to me."
Love is not diminished.
It is transformed.
Mary learns that devotion is not measured by what she can hold onto.
It is revealed by what she is willing to release.
She lets go.
Not because she has stopped loving.
But because love sometimes asks us to trust what cannot be possessed.
She carries the blessing forward with open hands.
The earth understands this wisdom.
Leaves loosen their grip.
Seeds fall.
Fields are cleared.
Trees do not mourn each leaf that departs.
They trust the quiet work that only winter can accomplish.
Nothing is forced to bloom forever.
Nothing is meant to be carried forever.
Samhain invites us to honor what has completed its season.
To bless what has shaped us.
To grieve what deserves grieving.
And then, gently, to release our grasp.
Not everything that leaves has failed.
Not everything that ends has been lost.
Some things must return to the earth before they can become new life.
This is not the threshold of forgetting.
It is the threshold of faithful release.
This threshold asks a quiet question:
What are you holding so tightly that it cannot become what it is meant to become?
The Practice:
Sit in darkness.
Speak aloud one identity you are done carrying.
Say nothing more.
What to Notice:
Notice relief.
Notice the influence of authority without compromise.
What Not to Do:
Do not replace the identity.
Do not compromise to conform.
Do not define what comes next.
Journal Prompt:
In many Magdalene texts, she remains present at the crucifixion when others leave. She does not intervene. She does not turn away. (You may optionally reference The Twelve Initiations with Mary Magdalene — Initiation of Descent)
• What is already over, even if I have not named it?
• Where am I maintaining something past its natural life?
• What would it mean to allow an ending without explanation?
• Where am I reaching for continuation out of habit rather than truth?
• Can something close here without being replaced?
What is quietly completing by itself?
